Week 3: ʻIolani Cross Country Invitational at Kualoa

It's finally here! This Saturday, 9/15, is the crown jewel of IXC & the premier high school XC meet in the state. For those of you new to IXC, you are in for a treat as our varsity squad returns to the meet as defending champions.

Mahalo

A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who signed up to volunteer & help us manifest this special experience for the runners. Your time & effort are invaluable and the best gift our program could receive. We look to work hard on Saturday, but also enjoy ourselves in the great atmosphere & seeing familiar alumni faces in what has become our IXC Homecoming. There are still some slots left that could use more volunteers; the more people available the easier and more enjoyable the shifts are.

Detailed emails will be sent directly to each group of volunteers regarding meeting times, tasks, and also lessons learned from the 19 previous meets. (Our program is renowned for running the best meets). Please also check out the IXCI tab for general meet info. Bus times are posted on the schedule. Note that we mention to the other teams no arrival before noon, we will have a designated parking lot for our volunteers & coaches at the field directly opposite of Kualoa Beach Park. This field will be closed at 12 noon & parking will be at the sugar mill field after that.

Pasta Feed, Friday, 9/14

Friday night we also host the mainland visiting school to a pasta dinner in our student center from 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm. There is no cost, and it's a great event for the kids to mingle. Please feel free to join us. We will start setting up at 4:30 and can definitely use some help as well.

At the end of the pasta dinner, the students will help load the trucks/vans with the myriad of equipment, e.g. tents, tables, chairs, coolers of ice, etc... going to Kualoa Ranch the next day. We should easily be done in 30 min if we have all hands on deck.

Snacks

As this Saturday is a long day for the team, we are soliciting snacks for the boys. Please sign up in the google sheet here.

Drone Video

If there is anyone who would like to help us video the meet with a drone, let us know! The video turned out great last year & we are looking to do the same again this year. With that said...

Weather

Hurricane Olivia is expected to weaken to a tropical storm before it reaches Hawaii this week, however, strong winds and excess rainfall are very much possible. We will continue to monitor the weather, but be prepared for a wet and muddy meet!
