Welcome to the official start of the 2019 Summer. As we like to say, cross country is a summer sport awarded in the fall. Consistent summer training is undoubtedly the single biggest factor leading to successful results in the fall.
With that in mind, we run Monday - Friday 4 pm to 6 pm. We meet near the Weinberg Snackbar. All experience levels welcome, just make sure you have proper running gear. Intermediates are suggested meet MWF; JV & Varsity meet M-F. We also have morning swim practice on Tuesday & Fridays from 7:00 - 7:45 am at the pool. These are great for extra aerobic work.
Dress Code:
For new runners, we have a dress code for off-campus runs. The intent is to maximize visibility for motorists & drivers when we are out on the roads. The standard colors of fluorescent orange, fluorescent yellow-green, and fluorescent red are recommended colored shirts to wear for outruns. These safety colors are specified the American National Standard for High-Visibility Safety Apparel and Accessories, ANSI 107, as the most noticeable colors to the naked human eye in daylight. In addition, other acceptable colors include: bright red, bright yellow, bright pink, and other fluorescent/neon colors (think highlighter colors). Neutral colors, white, grey, black, pastels and dark colors are not acceptable as they blend in with the background. The majority of the shirt, if not all, should be of high-visibility color, and wearing high-visibility shirts supplements our existing off-campus traffic safety guidelines & best practices.
We have leftover booster tank top and dri-fit shirts from last year in the correct colors available for purchase at cost for $10 until supplies last. This year's team shirt & Invitational Kualoa shirt will also be of bright colors and suitable for outruns. Don't worry, you can wear any colors for track workouts on campus. The coaches will let you know the schedule ahead of time.
Schedule:
If you have other sports/commitments, please see Coach Jack at practice to work out an acceptable schedule for all parties. In general, we are happy to keep things flexible, but at the same time, we have to come to a consistent schedule for you to not only get the best out of your season, but also to avoid over training & injuries. We have students with multiple commitments & have had success in helping students multitask.
Save the Dates:
The 21th anniversary of the ʻIolani Cross Country Invitational returns to beautiful Kualoa Ranch the afternoon of Saturday, September 14th, and the Pasta Feed on Friday, September 13th on campus at 5 pm. Please save the dates & lend us a hand. This event is a homecoming event for our program as IXC families past and present join forces to host teams from all over the state & US mainland. Please lend us your time to put on this great event!
