IXC & Season Update

Hi everyone,

Our boys are in full swing in preparation for the upcoming season. Here are some important updates as we look ahead.

No morning swim practice this week, the pool is closed for annual maintenance. We will resume morning swim next Tuesday, 8/17.

First Preseason Meet, Friday, 8/20, 4pm - 7pm

We have our first preseason meet at Hanalani. The races are limited to 7 runners per school. We will determine the racing roster over the next week and a half.

Flexibility & Uncertainty

As you may have heard, the DOE has postponed all fall sports until September 24. The ILH is going ahead with the fall season with student athletes required to be fully vaccinated OR undergo testing before competition. Our school's vaccination requirement is still the more stringent requirement & we continue to operate as we have. Testing for exempt students will be provided via the school when competition begins, and those are all conducted confidentially with our school's approved staff.

We still don't know the season schedule, the ILH and HHSAA are currently discussing new fall/winter sport dates. Please be advised there may be a high possibility of overlap of the seasons, i.e. XC season & soccer season may overlap.

Some of the dates we know at the moment are the Hanalani preseason meet on 8/20 and the `Iolani Cross Country Invitational at Kaaawa Valley on 9/18. Please save the date as we will need a lot of volunteer help at Kaaawa. The public schools will not be able to attend our invitational, but the ILH, neighbor island private schools, and mainland visiting schools will be in attendance. To prioritize the health and safety of everyone involved, we will incorporate the same protocol as the Ann Kang Volleyball Tournament and test all participating school's non-vaccinated student athletes.

For now, we continue on our charted course. We are still in strength endurance phase of our training and can easily adapt to a season schedule change. The additional time may be a blessing in disguise for those who come out late and are still still getting in shape. However, we will also need to work smartly with multisport student athletes who have winter sports. We're confident in our ability to adapt as long as everyone keeps an open mind and dedication.

That is all the info (or lack thereof) for now, please feel free to let me know if you have any questions!
